Southern CA (Day 2) - arrived at Joshua Tree

12/22/11  (Thur)

We woke up at 10:30am then we went inside Wal-Mart to McDonald for breakfast, but the breakfast was over. So we shopped for food, I bought bacon and roll.  Then we went to Vons, their food was expensive. Tom found good French roll for $3.49 (round 12 roll). Then in the same parking lot they have Dollar Tree, we went inside to look around. But we only bought the stove lighter. We went across the street to 99 cents stores and we bought red potatoes; 2 bags of Dole Salad; Italian dressing (it was too salty); and tomatoes. We forgot to get red onion, so I went back again.

Few miles before Yucca Valley, I saw a cheap place for propane ($2.99/gallon --- fill up 4.4/gallon) I also get gas for the small tank (gas was $3.60/gallon) I only filled up to $2.50, get my money back for $1.10.  We went to Joshua tree visitor center before we filled up our gas. (Cash price is $3.45, but credit card is $3.55). It was passed 5:00 p.m. the gate is already closed, so we did  not pay the $15 fee.  We got lost on the way to Jumbo Rock Campground (the fee for a day is $10, but no water no elect.)  The first night we did not pay because it was very late at night.  It was very cold and windy.
