Yuma - Day 4 (Algondones, Mexico)

7/12/10 (Monday)

We woke up at 10:00am and got ready to go to Algodones Mexico. We could feel the heat from outside, later we found out the temperature was 110 degree that day. At first we wanted to take Lawrence to Heritage Library, but the library close Monday.

So we took him to the Main Library which has a better open hours from 9:00am – 9pm for Mon-Thur and Fri & Sat open from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

When we reached the road next to the Mexico border that we used to park our truck for free, we saw the post said “NO Parking Anytime, Fine will be $199”. Tom had to park our truck inside the paid parking lot, which cost $5 a day. On the way to the dentists in Tom list, there were a lot of people in the street trying to get us into their dentist office. We went into one of the office and saw the people who work inside the office were very young. Also half of the place was eyeglasses and the other half was the dental office. We did not like it. Tom and I walk back outside and continued looking for the one in the list. Then we had another man name Tony Antonic which spoke very good English told us he worked at this dentist office. He took us to the office, he told us his boss was a implant specialist. The dentist name was Dr. Juan Bernal. We could have a free exam if we wanted it, so I went inside and talk to Dr. Bernal about my loose tooth in the back of my mouth. He took a look and told me that I could not save that tooth, because it was badly infected. He told me this tooth needed to be taking out, and I asked him how much does it cost? He told me it is $40 per tooth. Dr. Bernal do a very good job of removing my tooth, he did it very fast, and I did not even felt it when he took it out from my tooth. When I walked back in the front office I told Tom Dr. Bernal is very good dentist, then Tom went inside and had his tooth exam. While I was waiting I found out that Tony Antonic used to be a carpenter in San Diego. He told me that he has a house in Yuma and Dr. Bernal also has one too. They both are American resident, but Tony said he like the Mexico better. He told me itonly cost him $56 us dollars to rent a 2 bedroom 1 bath house for a month. Also told me that right now he has his air cond. turn on 24 hours for a month, only cost him $20. He went see Tom and walked back to tell me that Tom is having two teeth pull out and one implant. When Tom come out he told me the same story, Dr. Bernal was very good at pulling teeth, he didn’t feel anything at all. Our totals bill was $720 (including 3 X $40 for teeth removed and $600 for the implant). Dr. Bernal wrote Tom an antibiotic and pain pill, and told us go to the Grupo Liquis Pharmacy (purple store). We went inside and bought the medication which cost us totals $35.45 (including $7.99ea for 12 tabs antibiotic; $5.99ea X 2 10 tabs/ea box for pain pill and high blood pressure pills $7.74/ea X 2 100 tabs/ea).

We went back to the main library to picked Lawrence up and went to Walmart to buy a 19 in Vizio flat screen TV. It cost $188 plus 9.4% tax. They have no recycle fee attached to their price. After we got home, I could not found my antenna. So we had to waited one more day to watch our new TV.
